Newborn Photography Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to book a newborn session?
Anytime between when you find out you're pregnant and up to a few weeks before your due date. Last minute sessions may be available depending on my schedule.
When is the best time to do a newborn session?
It is ideal to pick the date of your session about 4 to 7 days after your due date. Newborns are most easily posable before they are 2 weeks old. Think of this date as more of a general time when your session will be since babies come whenever they are ready!
What if my baby comes before or after my due date?
Woohoo! Just let me know and I will be happy to discuss an alternate date with you. Remember we are aiming for between 4 and 12 days old if possible but this is not strict. I also love babies older than this! They are just generally more easily posable during the first 2 weeks.
How do I prepare for a newborn photoshoot?
Please refer to the Notes/Tips for your Newborn Session page.
What if my baby cries the whole time?
Some babies just do not like to be moved around or fussed with. If this is the case I will use soothing techniques to help calm your baby. I will likely be bringing a small heater with me however, if you keep your house on the cooler side I suggest bumping up your AC up a few degrees. Babies love being warm so cold air tends to have newborns on the fussier side.
In the scenario that I cannot get any photos due to baby just not having it after many tries I will be happy to reschedule a new session ASAP. They really do grow so fast ;)
Please read Notes/Tips page for more info on this subject.
Do I need to prepare my home?
To a minimal extent. Preferably the best place for pictures is the room with the best natural lighting (near a window). Please do not feel like you need to clean your entire house! I am a Mother, I know what it is like to have stuff everywhere. I am there to photograph your baby not to judge the way your house looks. :)
That being said, if you have space for the beanbag poser I will need a space to put it. (roughly 30 inches by 30 inches) This beanbag can go on the floor or table I will also bring a small space heater and possibly a light stand if there's no natural lighting.
If you don't have space for the beanbag poser I can use a clean kitchen table or a bed in a bedroom or a couch.
I want this to be the least stressful for you as possible.
